District Reaps Benefits of Bus Buy-Back Program
A bus buy-back program allows the Geneva School District (IL) to purchase new buses at the start of each school year with a contract to sell them back at a percentage at the end of the year. This year, for example, the district paid $5.1 million for 66 buses at a 90.65% buy-back rate. The district receives reimbursement from the state for depreciation. Read more about this program here.

Parent Saves Bus When Driver Blacks Out

When a bus driver in Southern Utah blacked out, a parent on board “jumped up and took control of the wheel, turned off the engine and coasted it to the side of the road,” Washington County School District Superintendent Max Rose told KSL.com. Everyone was okay. Read more about it here.

Fight Leads to Student Being Run Over, Killed by School Bus

A 15-year-old Richland Alternative School (LA) student was killed when she fell into the path of a school bus. It happened during a fight with another high school girl on Monday. Both students fell off the curb as a school bus was passing by. The incident is still under investigation while the approximately 40 students who witnessed the death are being offered counseling opportunities. Read more about it here.
